   Hobbs High School SkillsUSA students participated in a variety of community projects last week as the chapter celebrated National SkillsUSA week.

  dog walkingProjects including setting up a booth at Highland Middle School where high school students discussed the merits of the SkillsUSA program with 8th-graders who will be eligible to join next year. A valentine cake pop fund-raiser netted scholarship money and kept students baking and selling 1,000 cake pops. And on Saturday, students were at the Hobbs Animal Adoption Center to walk dogs and help clean the facility.

  SkillsUSA is a national program which provides education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development, according to Skills President Jordan Dossey. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills, he said.
