 New Mexico Teacher Evaluation

The Effective Teaching Task Force was formed by Executive Order in April 2011 with the purpose of improving the teacher Evaluation System. Over the course of 3 months, the 15 member Task Force representing teachers and school leaders across the state met 10 times for over 60 hours to deliver recommendations to Governor Martinez.

The Governor believed the former teacher recognition process in New Mexico placed emphasis on years of experience and credentials obtained.  The purpose of the Task Force was to find the most meaningful way to change this dynamic and place student achievement at the forefront of teacher excellence in order to change a system with ‘qualified’ teachers to classrooms full of effective teachers.

The following pages and resources are designed to assist teachers in understanding the implementation of the New Teacher Evaluation System implemented during the 2016-2017 school year.

Updated:  The Educator Effectiveness Plans have been changed by the PED as of January 29th, 2016.
